Three Quotes of chapter four, “You Majored in What?”

“A key piece of information you will need to learn is your interviewer’s college major”. Let me just ask you a question.  Have you ever asked your interviewer’s major during the interview? I’m assuming, probably not but few.  Many of us perhaps never thought of it.  I never thought about it whether I should and shouldn’t ask. Who knew?  I didn’t even know that was an appropriate to ask to a potential employer.  From now on, I will keep in mind to be more aware about how and when to ask about his or her major because as Brook Suggest that this can really lead to getting the job. Therefore, asking the interviewer about his or her major is essential.  If one can find out about the interviewer’s major, the applicant would really relate to his or her interviewer’s point of view.  The applicant can really see where his or her interviewer stands at.

“Most textbooks help you find the important information by highlighting important material.” Indeed, this is the way I do my studies. Highlighting the important materials and identifying the key points, helps me to remember more and to summarize the entire chapter. For instance, when I was taking management class, I had to highlight most of the time. The book contained almost 20 chapters. Going step by step or reading page by page wouldn’t help to study for the test the entire book. So, Analyzing the key points was one way to go. It helped me a lot in dealing with the theoretical materials that contained a lot of information.
“Use A planning System” For us as students, there is a lot of work to do. Also, all people are busy and overcommitted somehow with their jobs and so on. Well, let’s go back to the point as being students. I have experienced a lot of stressfulness for the past couple of semester as being a full time student and working while I’m not in school.  …And I have to say that I had even forgotten a lot of important events that mattered to me. Sometimes, I run to my classes a bit late. Other times I needed more time to study.  So, one thing I realized was that it was time to develop a plan “a planning system”.  When I followed my plans, things start changing gradually. I had some extra time to relax and do something that wasn’t related to school work. So, for us as students I think it is very important to have a planning system, to navigate with school work

Quotes from Chapter 3 "You Majored in What?"

“The global thinker understands that our worlds are enhanced by appreciating, valuing, and incorporating ideas from other countries and cultures.”
I have to look at it in business perspective of the global mindset. In business world, one has to be global thinker. He or she has to study other cultures in order to relate to them and learn their cultures to form a joint venture. The languages are also even more essential to form a relationship because speaking one’s native language connects between two cultures deeply when comes forming a joint ventures. As a matter of fact, now the world is becoming more and more technologically advanced, and it is becoming more interconnected every day, so to think globally is very important.  Is this case, Brook’s point is valuable because her statement makes me realize that understanding other cultures is paramount in today’s business world. Also, U.S. and E.U. has been becoming more and more diversified. Most of the workplaces are diversified. In addition, in every profession there is diversity, and each of them has different beliefs and values. Thus, I believe, appreciating and incorporating with different cultures brings us together as a one world.
“Good collaborators know that our thinking expands into new areas when we work with and listen to others”. This statement is an inspirational to me because being a collaborator is a fundamental value within the society. I agree with Brook’s statement that when we are cooperative and collaborative, we become open minded and expand to the next levels of interaction with others. Being open minded is very important to survive especially in business world. Even in other professions like psychology, philosophy, law and so on, one need to be good critical thinker collaborate and understand what really goes around us. Moreover, to expand our thinking leads us to go beyond of our beliefs and in values we belief in. we are able to understand and examine why we belief in what we belief.  Thus, being a collaborator may be a challenge for us, but it is essential matter to navigate well in the real world with and especially with others.
“Flexible thinkers are natural experimenters: curious, alert, and open to change”. This statement is very true that when we are flexible thinkers or open minded, we are willing to change our thoughts and become alert and curious. This curiosity also gives us advantages by leading us to discover new opportunities in life. Moreover, we are able to learn and relate with people as well as with different cultures.
